The beautiful settings of lush, mountainous landscapes and coffee plantations, along with the traditional architecture of terra cotta–roofed country houses, led UNESCO to add it to its list of World Heritage Sites in 2011.

CAÑO CRISTALES

Regarded as the most beautiful river in the world, it is commonly called the “River of 5 Colors” or the “Liquid Rainbow”. Between July and November, this fast river full of rapids and waterfalls, comes alive with yellow, green, blue , black and red– pink colors , from the Macarenia clavigera plant, the sight of which will leave you breathless. Caño Cristales is on the border of three different ecosystems, crossed by morichales and hills of the mountains, very characteristic of the plains landscape.
